Inclusivity, Consent and Anti-Harassment Policy

At Disco Neurotico, we are dedicated to providing an inclusive and accessible club night for all, but especially individuals who are neurodivergent and those with anxiety disorders. We aim to create a space where diversity is celebrated, harassment is not tolerated, and consent is actively practised. Our commitment extends to fostering a platform for minority and under-represented artists, while ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all clubbers.

Our Commitment:

  1. Zero Tolerance: Disco Neurotico maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of discrimination and harassment, including but not limited to ableism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, and ageism. We actively promote inclusivity, diversity, and accessibility, striving to create a safe and welcoming space for everyone, especially those with neurodivergent and anxiety-based sensitivities.

  2. Safer Space Policy: All our events operate under our Safer Space Policy, designed to provide an inclusive and welcoming environment for LGBTQ+ and non-binary individuals, those with disabilities and people from any and all cultural, ethnic and economic backgrounds. We continually work to improve our efforts and policies in this direction and welcome feedback.

  3. Neurodivergent and Anxiety-Friendly: Recognising the diversity of our community, we are committed to providing a club night that is neurodivergent and anxiety-friendly. We encourage all our patrons to engage with our space comfortably and at their own pace, respecting the needs and boundaries of others. We welcome and respect stimming and other self-regulation tools so feel free to bring stim toys, ear defenders, plushies or anything else that makes you feel at ease.

Club Etiquette:

  1. Consent and Boundaries: Consent is a fundamental aspect of our club night. We recognise that everyone's boundaries and comfort levels are different. While dancing or socialising, we expect all patrons to respect personal boundaries and obtain clear and enthusiastic consent before further interaction. For individuals who may find it challenging to express their boundaries verbally, we encourage the use of clearly identifiable interaction ribbons provided on arrival in your orientation packs: green for "I'm open to interaction", yellow for "I’m low on social spoons" and red for "I need personal space”.

  2. Respectful Dancing: Our primary aim is to create a space for freedom and self-expression on the dance floor. While dancing, please respect the personal space and boundaries of your fellow ravers. Do not touch, disturb, or attempt to engage in unsolicited conversations with others while they are dancing. Don’t stare at or film anyone on the dance floor. If the dance floor gets overwhelming, we provide a dedicated "chill-out" area where patrons can retreat if they need a break from the crowd.

  3. Communication: Effective communication is a key component of our approach. We encourage club-goers to communicate openly and considerately with one another. If you need space or have specific requirements due to neurodivergence or anxiety, please feel free to communicate your needs to our well-being officer, Violet, who will be wearing a pink high-visibility vest. We provide a sensory-friendly quiet zone and encourage patrons to bring ear defenders if that is something you might need.

  4. Community Involvement: We actively encourage all members of our community to play a role in maintaining a welcoming environment. If you witness any behaviour that violates our policies or makes you feel uncomfortable, please inform our staff discreetly. Our staff can be identified by their high visibility jackets.

  5. Immediate Action: In cases of harassment or any behaviour that makes individuals feel unsafe, we adopt a policy of "always believe the report”. If someone reports such behaviour, we will promptly address it and, if necessary, remove the offending individual from the club.

  6. Be Nice To Our Staff: Most of our staff have lived experience of neurodivergence or anxiety issues and we ask that you treat them with the kindness and respect they offer you.

Our Core Principles:

  • Neurodivergent Accessibility: Disco Neurotico is committed to being a neurodivergent-friendly space, where stimming and self-regulation methods are welcomed and respected. We acknowledge that sensory experiences can vary, and we encourage our patrons to respect each other's sensory needs. Noise-cancelling headphones, sensory-friendly zones, and designated quiet spaces are available for those who require them.

  • Be Respectful: Treat everyone with respect and dignity. Respect personal boundaries and consent, especially for those who may use non-verbal cues to communicate.

  • Enjoy The Moment: Embrace the joy of the music and dance without intruding on others' experiences. Avoid disturbing people on the dance floor or elsewhere in the club. Do not stare, follow, or engage in unsolicited interactions.

  • Look After Your Friends: Ensure your friends' well-being and safety throughout the night. Support those who may require assistance.

  • Consent Matters: Consent is of utmost importance. Ensure you obtain explicit consent before initiating any physical contact. For individuals with neurodivergent needs, be receptive to their unique communication styles and cues.

  • Reporting Unwanted Behavior: If anyone is making you feel uncomfortable or you witness others feeling uncomfortable, please inform our staff wearing Disco Neurotico Hi-Viz vests. Your concerns will be addressed promptly and confidentially.

  • No Cameras On The Dance Floor: To respect privacy and create a safe atmosphere, cameras are not permitted on the dance floor.

Feedback and Support:

We value your feedback and support in our ongoing efforts to create an inclusive and safe club night. If you have any questions or concerns, or need assistance, please reach out to our staff. Your well-being and enjoyment are our top priorities, and we are committed to fostering an environment where everyone can have a memorable and enjoyable experience at Disco Neurotico.

Disclaimer

We aim to provide a safe and inclusive night out for people who may experience anxiety or sensory overwhelm in traditional club settings. Though the creative team behind Disco Neurotico all have lived experience of neurodivergence and mental health issues, we are not medical professionals. We can support and advise, but we expect each individual to take responsibility for their health and well-being.
